Kind Words Are Sweet Tones of the Heart

Image
"Let us all speak kind words to each other." ~Church hymn Here are some kinds words given to me recently. "If you delegate to Sister Scott, you know you can sleep at night." ~President Lee Sister Lee at a zone conference told the sisters that not only was I good at what I do, but I was also FUN! "You are a diamond in the rough. You were meant to be here (in my missionary position as mission secretary) at this time."  ~Housing coordinator Elder Kerby Every time I see President Keller, counselor to President Lee, he always commends me, telling me that I am so good at what I do.  The last time he saw me he said that he could tell I give my all.   President Gibbons, other counselor to President Lee asked me one day, as I hit my year mark, what my plans were.  He thought I was leaving.  I told him I was planning on a 3 year mission.  He looked at me with the warmest eyes and gratitude in his heart.  I could tell.   "Thank you," he said...

More missionaries than ever!

Image
one of our zone conferences                                                  new missionaries arrive from the train station The church has announced there are more than 80,000 missionaries in the fields. WOW! And our mission is seeing this happen.   We just got 16 temple square sisters. We had 22 new missionaries come in Jun And 27 coming in July.  So awesome.  Love this.

The Power of Prayer

Image
First of all, I love this picture.   I came across a quote by Pres. Oaks about the power of prayer.  "You have no idea what's shifting because you pray. You think you're just whispering words in your car. Just crying out in your closet. Just mumbling through tears you can't explain. But in the spirit? Angels are moving. Chains are breaking. Destinies are being realigned.  Demons are losing legal ground. Heaven is learning in. You're not just talking. You're warring. You're building altars that will outlive you. You're interceding for bloodlines that don't even know they're being covered. Prayer is not a soft option. It's a supernatural strategy. That's why the enemy fights it so hard. That's why your phone buzzes when you kneel. that's why your mind races when you try to focus. Because prayer is the place of power. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous believer can accomplish much when put into action and made effe...

The Lord's House shall be established in the top of the mountain

Image
President Lee speaks to the new missionaries about this special mission they have been chosen to be a part of.  He quotes from Isaiah 2 where it says in verse 2, "And it shall come to past in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow until it." He says this is literally happening before our eyes.  The Lord's house shall be established in the tops of the mountains.  (Salt Lake Temple).  And in these last day all nations shall flow unto it.  We are seeing people come from all over the world joining the Church in our SLC Mission.  It is a miracle and marvel to see this happen each day.   Our missionaries are teaching large numbers of people in Arabic, the Rwandan language of Kinyarwanda, Mandarin, French and of course Spanish.  Adding to this on 15 Apr 2026. This past weekend was our stake conference. Pres Dunkley b...

Missionary Miracle

Image
I love to hear miracles among the missionaries.  Sister Langi was serving a mission in Peru and for some reason needed to come home.  She then served a service mission for a while and then transferred to a teaching mission in our mission.   I have gotten to know her and saw a kind of shy sister grow into an enthusiastic, giant smile missionary.  She had a great trainer, Sister Tu'inakuafu.   Sister Langi was transferred to WY for her last area and what unfolded up there is nothing short of a miracle. She and her companion have been teaching a family from Peru that just moved to Wyoming.  And they are a family that Sister Langi was teaching in Peru!  What are the odds?  I am sure for her, for this family and for all of us seeing this, it is truly sign of God's love for his children.

The Shootings in Rose Park -The Savior watches over his missionaries

Image
Yesterday evening was not a good day in Rose Park and for the missionaries in that area. But like this picture depicts, it has been reiterated to me that Jesus Christ watches over his missionaries Around 7:00 pm last night at the Tongan LDS church on Redwood Rd and 600 N a shooting occurred. There was a funeral viewing for a Tongan brother taking place and an argument occurred outside the building. Then gunshots and 2 people were killed and 6 injured. Terrible! I found out about this because my children were calling me concerned for my safety since I live in this neighborhood.  This morning as I was coming to the mission office, my mind started to think about the missionaries in the area. When I got to the office I asked President Lee what we should do.  He's was ahead of me in thinking about things and told me that last night two elders were across the street from the shooting and heard the shots and witnessed the event and called 911.  The missionaries then calle...

The comings and goings of missionaries

I had no idea how much missionaries come and go in the mission.  It makes for a crazy time! Let me give you an example of what is happening right now.  Pres and Sister Lee went up to Wyoming with a sister for an emergency transfer .  Two sisters were not getting along. So there needed to be a change. An elder from Wyoming was transported back to SLC because he was being sent home for misconduct.  (Just saying it like it is.) Another elder was playing ball on P-Day and broke his ankle.  He is going home tomorrow for surgery and recovery. And another elder was on his bike and hit by a car.  He is going home. (President Lee has to take two elders to the airport in wheelchairs.) Another elder just returned on Tuesday, from a leave.  He had to go home and have a surgery. Yesterday, I took a Pilipino sister to the airport (at 5:00 am) as she is going to her mission in Taiwan.  She has been a visa waiter in our mission.   This happens quite ...

More Miracles

Image
I wish I could post pics of the missionaries I write about but I want to respect privacy and such.  I see miracles all the time on my mission. I know how much Heavenly Father loves his children as I observe these miracles.  And I have another story to tell that is worth writing about.   There is a sister called to our mission from Madagascar.  Her arrival keeps getting delayed even though she is in the Provo MTC.  We finally found out why the delays.  While here, in Provo, she has been diagnosed with cancer.  The Church has been so good to her.  Rather to send her home, where there is no treatment, they are going to send her mother here and get her treatment here.   What a blessing to her that she was called on a mission and sent to a place where she can get treatment.  The Lord is so good! And so wise! And so loving! And knows all!

The Duties and Joys of Serving as an LDS Mission Secretary

Image
I was asked to submit an article to my ward for our ward history on my role as the secretary for the Utah Salt Lake City Mission. Here's what I said.  The Duties and Joys of Serving as an LDS Mission Secretary   July 1, 2025 began my service as the secretary for the Utah Salt Lake City Mission. Serving as a mission secretary is a sacred and meaningful calling.   The mission secretary plays a vital role in supporting the Mission Leaders, assisting the missionaries, and ensuring that the Lord’s work moves forward efficiently and in order.   My daily duties as the mission secretary often include managing mission correspondence, organizing transfers, maintaining missionary records, handling travel logistics, preparing reports, organizing mission meeting and ensuring that all communication between the mission office and individual missionaries runs smoothly.   Beyond the administrative work, the role of a mission secretary is one of quiet servic...

President Dallin H. Oaks

Image
Dallin H. Oaks was sustained as the prophet, seer and revelator for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  I know he is a prophet. One day shortly after President Nelson passed away I was reading the most recent general conference talk by President Oaks.  This is what he said in the talk. "One of the most significant of God's helps for His faithful children is the gift of the Holy Ghost." We have to be baptized in order to get this gift, he says. And, "All who possess this inestimable gift, this pearl of great price, has a continual thirst after righteousness and without the aid of the Holy Spirit no mortal can walk in the straight and narrow way." He says we simple cannot walk the straight and narrow way without baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost.  He answered my long lost question I have had.  Why do we need baptism? A dear friend of mine asked many many years ago.  It seems silly, she said, that we have to do this act of baptism in order...

President Russell M. Nelson

Image
I love Pres Nelson so much!  I knew this day would come and I don't like it one bit.  President Russell M Nelson passed away September 27, 2025.  He taught me so much and was such an example to me.  In the coming days I will add to this post some of his quotes that are so special to me.

Grace

Image
  I. love. this. picture. Thoughts from Sister Sherri Dew's book  "Amazed by Grace" What is Grace? How do I gain access to it?  What difference does grace make in my life?  Can it help me with loneliness, with overeating, with bad relationships, with weaknesses and temptations, with insecurity, with heartache and stress?  Can it help me with my family?  Is grace always present, or do I have to do something to get it?  Is it a feeling?  How can I tell when grace is helping me?

Believe

Image
I woke up this morning singing a song from the new hymnbook called " Believe ."  Then what happens? I come to zone conference for the Service Missionaries and the choir was practicing a song for it.  Of course, it was this song.  This happens all the time!   You know what Albert Einstein said. " There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."  Here are the words to the song.  Believe Because He walked the path, I know the way. Because He calmed the storm, I'm not afraid. Because He made the lame to walk and caused the blind to see And blessed the children one by one, I feel His love for me.  And I will praise forever t he Savior of the world. And I will sing together with all the Saints on earth. Because He gave to me ev'rything He had to give, I breathe, I see, I hope, I love, I live. Because He died for me, I'll live again.  Because He is my Friend, I'l...

Zion's Camp

Image
Why did the Lord call the Zion's Camp ?  Wasn't it a failure? Well, No. But that's not my point here. Why would the Lord do this? Why would the Lord send these people to sacrifice and suffer, just to fail?  What can I learn from this?  I ask myself this all the time, when I feel impressed with something and then it falls through. Or doesn't happen has I pictured it to happen. One of these things is that I felt so impressed that I needed to go to Idaho Falls .  I planned to go on a mission there. I spent time in Idaho Falls, thinking, pondering, visiting the mission and temple and visitor's center.  I felt so good about it.  I planned to submit mission papers to go there Sept 2025. And it fell apart! I started to not feel so great about it.  There weren't any missionary opportunities there. Ian and Savannah announce a new baby! September 2025. And  I felt I needed to be home for this. and other things started to happen. So what to do, delay my miss...

Fall Zone Conference 16 Sep 2025

Image
16 SEP 2025   ZONE CONFERENCE It started with this!    Song is powerful.  GETHSEMANE Jesus climbed the hill to the Garden still; His steps were heavy and slow. Love and a prayer took Him there to the place only He could go. Gethsemane! Jesus loves me, So He went willingly to Gethsemane. He felt all that was sad, wicked, or bad, all the pain we would ever know. While His friends were asleep, He fought to keep His promise made long ago. Gethsemane! Jesus loves me, So He went willingly to Gethsemane. The hardest thing that ever was done,  The greatest pain that ever was known, The biggest battle that ever was won His was done by Jesus! The fight was won by Jesus! Gethsemane! Jesus loves me, So He gave this gift to me in Gethsemane. Gethsemane! Jesus loves me, So He gives this gift to me from Gethsemane. K. Senior luncheon

Image
Senior Missionary Luncheon Elder and Sister Wadsworth spoke.   I loved what they said.  The difference between Sacrifice and Consecration. Sacrifice: A weakness or sin or worldly thing that you place on the alter and give up to be burned or consumed.  Consecration: You have to be able to live the other laws to live the law of consecration.  And it is giving all you have that he Lord has blessed you with, your gifts, your money, your time to the Lord for His work. Understanding these two distinctions was so profound for me.

Serving

Image
People in the Salt Lake Valley are so good! Many think of the missionaries and missionary staff and want to help. One brother in the neighborhood brings the mission staff Jamba Juice EVERY WEEK. Another brother came in and wants to help missionaries at Christmas that may not get anything from home. Many people donate suites and other clothes to our missionaries.  People are already calling us to see what they can do for the missionaries for Christmas.  It is a beautiful thing!

Miracles happen all the time

Image
Obedience brings blessings, but exact obedience brings miracles."  President Russell M Nelson Miracles happen all the time. One day as I passed out all the passports to the departing missionaries. One missionary didn't get his. I looked through all my stuff and could not find it.  We looked and looked all over.  He was to return the next day to his home and he needed his passport.   The next thing I knew, a small group of us were kneeling in the mission office and praying that we would find it.  When the prayer ended, this missionary stood up, walked to my desk, looked under my desk, behind a filing cabinet.  Guess what? His passport was there.  Right there.   I love the miracles of missionaries.

25 April 2025 Elder Cook visits the mission

Image
Today was a beautiful day in the mission. We had a mission conference with Elder Quentin L. Cook, from the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He bore such a powerful testimony and I must record what he said.   He spoke of his great love for the Polynesian people and I knew at that moment that he was called to minister to our mission today.  We have a large population of Polynesian missionaries. As he spoke of his love for them it overwhelmed to see the response of these missionaries for him.  And then he said he couldn't reveal the sacred things of God.  The sacred are meant to keep personal. But he said, "I can tell you this.  I know Jesus Christ's voice and I know Jesus Christ's face." Wow! I knew what he was saying was true. I know that this is something to we can all seek to have.

Sending Knee Mails

Image
I call it sending "knee mails" when I kneel down and think of  missionaries in our mission that need special prayers.   Missionaries can find themselves in my prayers every morning as I think of their needs. Some have health problems. (Broken bones, aching teeth, kidney stones, not able to sleep, just to name a few.) Others get calls from home about a family member who has passed away. Others are struggling with keeping the rules. I pray that they will have that extra power to do the right. I hear of emotional problems and pray for that. These missionaries are so dog gone special to me.   I pray for all of them every single day.
