The Duties and Joys of Serving as an LDS Mission Secretary
I was asked to submit an article to my ward for our ward history on my role as the secretary for the Utah Salt Lake City Mission. Here's what I said.
The
Duties and Joys of Serving as an LDS Mission Secretary
July
1, 2025 began my service as the secretary for the Utah Salt Lake City Mission.
Serving as a mission secretary is a sacred and meaningful calling. The mission secretary plays a vital role in
supporting the Mission Leaders, assisting the missionaries, and ensuring that
the Lord’s work moves forward efficiently and in order.
My
daily duties as the mission secretary often include managing mission
correspondence,
organizing transfers, maintaining missionary records, handling travel
logistics,
preparing reports, organizing mission meeting and ensuring that all
communication between the mission office and individual missionaries runs
smoothly.
Beyond
the administrative work, the role of a mission secretary is one of quiet
service
and
spiritual stewardship. Working closely with the mission leaders, President and
Sister Lee, offers unique opportunities to see the Lord’s hand in guiding His
servants. Every day becomes a lesson in humility, teamwork, and inspiration.
The Spirit is often felt even in small details.
The
joy of serving in this position comes from seeing how even “behind-the-scenes”
efforts
can bless lives. I have become a witness that the Lord truly cares
about
order in His kingdom and that He magnifies the efforts of those who serve Him
faithfully.
This
calling also strengthens my testimony in profound ways. This work is
about
building the Savior’s kingdom. I have been reminded over and over that Christ
is in the details—and is part of His divine plan for gathering Israel.
Through
this daily service, I have gained a stronger witness of God’s love for His
missionaries and of the truthfulness of the restored gospel.
In
the end, being a mission secretary is far more than an office assignment—it is
an
opportunity
to serve the Lord with all my heart, might, mind, and strength, and to
feel the quiet but powerful joy of helping His work roll
forward.
